Project for Agriculture Commercialization and Trade

CMS has entered into the joint venture partnership with Development Vision Nepal and DMI to undertake the consulting assignment as Regional Technical Support Groups (RTSGs) to implement the Project for Agriculture Commercialization and Trade (PACT) in 25 districts of Terai and Hills.
Project Summary: To improve the competitiveness of smallholder farmers and agribusiness sector in selected commodity value chains, the World Bank (WB) is supporting the Government of Nepal (GoN), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC) to implement the Project for Agriculture Commercialization and Trade (PACT) in 25 districts of Terai and Hills.
The agricultural sector though is basically subsistence based, has indicated an extensive and viable scope for commercialization of high- value crops which can contribute higher income and greater incentives to the producers. The project districts has a higher level of agricultural commercialization, better economic infrastructure and organized farmers groups in the production of high value commodities with accessing markets.
CMS is undertaking consulting assignment as Regional Technical Support Groups (RTSGs) under joint venture partnership with Development Vision Nepal and DMI. The project is helping the farmers groups and cooperatives engaged in profitable market oriented production and improved access to markets, creating and strengthening industry wide partnership and linkages along the value chain between producers, traders, processors and other stakeholders, and reducing existing obstacles to agriculture and food trade by increasing sanitary and phytosanitory (SPS) measures and food quality standards. The total duration of the consulting assignment is 47 months starting from August 2011.
